I couldn’t have asked for more blessings last weekend. As I fretted about forgetting supplies, the Lord went before me in every detail. I was confirmed once again that we worry about needless things, when only one thing is needed. There is a little Martha in us all (see Luke 10:38-42). The whole premise of taking he(ART) is to bring more of our Mary disposition forward – the desire to sit at the Master’s feet. To look, listen, and learn what God would speak to us in our hearts. All while making a very cool mixed media art project together!
Our project was “rooted in love” from Paul’s prayer in Ephesians chapter 3, “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power….to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”. I built in special ways to each woman to listen for God’s Word to her heart. We started with hymns as the background for each canvas. The canvas’s were distributed randomly, but the women soon discovered that, with God, nothing is random. It was a blessing to watch each woman identify the words that meant something special to her. We had lots of creativity in leaving the meaningful words exposed so they would show in our finished pieces. One woman stamped a heart around the word love, for example, and it looked so cool! They each brought so many creative choices – I learned from them too!
Throughout the afternoon, each woman took a turn reading a passage from the Word that I typed up and also distributed “randomly”. The Word was like seed falling on the soil of our hearts. Each woman took home her Scripture with her finished piece. I also typed up all the passages for every woman to take home with them. The biggest blessing came in the days after when women came back to tell me how much God was using the passages and experience as they had time to process it all.
My friend, Pam, said this, “I am not very good at art, but this was such an amazing time! Being led through creating a beautiful piece all the while hearing and seeing God’s Word was incredible! Even days following the take he(ART) retreat, I felt like God was speaking to me through the art piece. And now, I have a permanent reminder of what He wanted me to get through the experience”.
It is such an honor to lead women in this creative journey and watch His Word take root at deeper levels in each heart. I still can’t believe that God would choose me for such an awesome job. It’s not like a job at all, it is a joy and delight! Here are some pictures from our afternoon together.
There are more pictures available at Faith Miner’s Daughter on Facebook . This theme is available for your small group gathering – 5 to 12 (maximum). I am working now to put together an information sheet for anyone interested in booking a Take he(ART) party for your house, or small group event.
