Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
It didn’t take long for me to figure out that the mountain Jesus was talking about was actually me. It’s all the baggage from my old ways – attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I use a mining metaphor to talk about my life because it powerfully illustrates the difference God has made in it. I was thirty two years old when God became my Father and lifted me from the “mountain”. . I have since been taking this new identity to heart: daughter. God’s daughter! Me. I have a Father: a good, strong, and loving Father. This has been especially healing to me, as I did not have that kind of relationship with my earthly father.
Below, I have collected the “best of” blog posts to give you an overview and better understanding of moving forward in your faith. Are you ready to “move mountains”? Good! Here’s a crash course in understanding this “mountain” of self – the barriers that keep us from going deeper in relationship with God. Below is a visual picture of the “mountain”. I call this the “Pride-fear continuum” because I see it like a spectrum with the extremes of Pride and Fear at either end. Both extremes immobilize us, shutting down our potential growth. Notice the position of faith. It is above and beyond the self. We can spend our whole lives moving side-to-side without ever breaking free to a new level of faith. This is tragic. How we miss the Father’s love for us and the glorious riches of His grace when we fail to put our trust in Christ Jesus. He is our treasure, we are His treasured possession. Faith mining means to allow God access to the depths of us – to heal us, change us, and lead us on the path of righteousness. The small yellow lines in the picture depict the way God works through our faith to penetrate those hard places in our minds, hearts, emotions, and wills.
Study the picture for a few minutes. Which side of the mountain do you tend to dwell? We typically lean predominantly toward one of the extremes. But either way, we are “below ground” and need to get “above ground”. The only way to do this is through faith in Christ Jesus. He is THE WAY, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
The “best of” collection is listed below by title, along with a short description about what you will find in each post. I pray these encourage you in faith – change is possible! Nothing is impossible with God! When we take Him at His Word, and go where He leads, we CAN move mountains. We can do things we never dreamed possible. This is the abundant, overcoming life of faith. “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:1-5).
If you believe, mountains will fall!
“Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain”.
